Help Give the Gift of Comfort! 2013 Hope House Winter-Wishlist:

The Hope House is a 64 bed emergency homeless shelter, the 2nd largest in the state of Maine.  It offers an integrated medical model of care: medical care, psychiatric care, and case management services. The shelter provides three meals a day and is asking for some community support around the holiday season.

Students and staff have setup a drop box near the entrance and fliers around the school with items the shelter is in desperate need of. Please consider donating!

Clinical Class

This week the clinical medical students’ learned about common disorders and diagnostic techniques for the gastrointestinal, neurological, urinary, endocrine and reproductive systems. Applying this knowledge to the Medical Assistant’s scope of practice, they performed various tests and assessments which would aid a practitioner in reaching their clinical diagnosis. These skills included performing a urinalysis, testing urine samples for the presence of the HCG hormone, neurological reflex assessments, and testing blood glucose levels.

Additionally, the students continue to master their phlebotomy skills every Mon, Tue and Fri from 3pm – 4:30pm, and volunteers are always welcome. To those of you who frequently volunteer your arms and hands for our students, I want to acknowledge your dedication and tell you that we truly appreciate you, and your efforts are not going unnoticed!  Remember, it may be you who will be searching for volunteers and by paying it forward, we are only creating a win/win situation for all students at NTI!

Financial Aid Update

It’s never too early to start thinking about your taxes. As soon as you receive your tax documents, think about filing your taxes. All students who file their FAFSA before May 1st, 2014, have a chance to receive the State of Maine Grant. This could be another $500 of debt-free funding towards your tuition.

See Luke if you have any questions!
