  • In-Demand Tech Jobs and Our Training Connection

CIO.com recently posted an article titled, “The 7 most in-demand tech jobs for 2018 — and how to hire for them,” in which they forecast the IT job market in 2018. While the article is targeted to business leaders and their hiring concerns, from our perspective, we view the article as a window into how we can help our students prepare for their new careers. We were excited to see careers from our programs on this list. Here’s what we found:

Help/Support Desk Technician
According to the article, entry-level Help Desk Technicians have a wide variety of starting salaries, depending on the industry. New employees can expect between $32,000 and $54,000 as starting annual salaries. In order to obtain one of these positions, you will need a combination of hands-on experience and the right certifications.  Graduates of our Desktop Support Technician program are able to demonstrate expertise in the resolution of end user incident requests involving troubleshooting and configuration of hardware, software and network settings. You’ll feel comfortable and prepared to communicate effectively, either independently or as part of a team, solving problems using computer and computer repair principles. In other words, just what employers want. Employers also want certifications, and our program will prepare you to earn  CompTIA A+,  CompTIA Network+, and Microsoft Windows Solutions Associate (Windows OS).

Network Administrator
While Desktop Support positions are on the front line of IT positions, Network Administrators are behind the scenes ensuring systems are running smoothly and troubleshooting any issues. According to CIO.com, the low-end of starting salary for Network Administrators is $55,000. Our Network Administration Program  introduces students to fundamental internet and computing skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications, and prepares students to sit for the Comptia A+, Network+, and Security+ exams by providing requisite knowledge and hands-on experience. Within the program, students will choose one of two specialities with the appropriate certifications in the specialty–the certifications employers want!

Best of all, with the training provided from either of these programs and additional on-the-job experience, you could be ready for one of the other five jobs listed in the article. And, once you have your foundation in the field, the sky’s the limit!
