Story By Goodwill Northern New England:  A few months ago George White used to dodge eye contact and avoid speaking to people he didn’t know. Now he’s working to become a manufacturing technician thanks to Goodwill’s Job Connection Services.

Before hearing about Job Connection, George stayed home most of the day. He was dealing with the death of his father and struggled to socially connect with people the way he wanted to. He knew he could have part-time or odd jobs here and there, but he wasn’t able to present himself to employers with confidence.

Portland Housing Authority connected him to Goodwill’s programs. Job Connection helps individuals crush barriers that may stand between them and unemployment through innovative, client-tailored techniques.

To get a good idea of what George’s strengths and interests were, Job Connection in conjunction with Workforce Solutions gave him the World of Work Inventory career placement test. They were blown away by George’s high scores on the test, especially in mechanical engineering.
